2010 - 2011 Maine Campus Compact AmeriCorps Positions
For the upcoming academic year MCC will be offering 6-8 AmeriCorps VISTA positions across the state. Maine Campus Compact VISTAs spend a year of service on college campuses in Maine. Their work entails: collaborating with students, faculty, staff and community partners, supporting community service and service-learning programs, developing strong campus-community partnerships focusing on anti-poverty outcomes, and improving access to college for low-income individuals. Members of the MCC VISTA team serve in a wide variety of communities on campuses of all types -- small and large, public and private -- in all corners of the state. They meet regularly throughout the year for training and networking.

VISTA: A campus-based program to develop strong campus-community partnerships and volunteer programs focused on anti-poverty outcomes
- Maine College of Art (MECA) - The position at Maine College of Art will focus on supporting and co-leading curriculum-based service-learning projects and co-curricular volunteer programs, as well as supporting the creation of the new minor in Public/Social/Civic Engagement. The responsibilities of the AmeriCorps member will be in four main areas: service learning, student engagement, community partnerships, and professional development.
- Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) The VISTA at Southern Maine Community College will work with students, faculty, and staff to encourage civic engagement throughout the campus. The VISTA will oversee the college's community service programs and work with faculty and students in service-learning courses to connect them with community partners. The VISTA is the primary liaison to community partners and will need to both foster existing relationships and develop new partners.
- Unity College - The VISTA member at Unity College will advance community food
security and sustainable agriculture education through facilitation of meaningful local partnerships. The VISTA will also
help Unity College students and faculty connect with hands-on
service opportunities that benefit local schools, food security organizations. The VISTA will act as a liaison between Unity College, Veggies For All, and the Volunteer Regional Food Pantry, including production planning, service partnerships, and
distribution as appropriate. *Position Filled* - University of Maine at Orono (UMO) - The VISTA at the University of Maine, Bodwell Center for Service and Volunteerism will assist in the coordination of large scale one-time service opportunities, plan weekly service opportunities, expand the leadership development program, oversee the expansion of the Civic Passage program, and expand community partnerships. The Civic Passage program provides opportunities for students, staff, and faculty to participate in multiple, meaningful service projects offered on a weekly basis throughout the year.
- University of Southern Maine (USM) - As the Community Service Coordinator, the VISTA at the University of Southern Maine will support and strengthen community partnerships for anti-poverty outcomes with strong student recruitment, student leadership development, and hands-on leadership of weekly and other student community service projects. The VISTA will also raise campus and community awareness of issues and facts on poverty in Southern Maine by conducting publicity and information campaign activities on campus, speaking to classes and student organizations, and developing and delivering active and passive educational programming.
- University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) - The UMA VISTA will manage the Office of Civic Engagement. The primary role will be
the continued development of community outreach programs and
community service. The VISTA will be promoting community work
study, including outreach to students and new community agencies.
