Mission

The Civic Leadership Network (CLN) is a program of the Campus Compacts of Northern New England. It is an online community of students and staff which offers:a calendar of trainings within the CLN, a framework of skills, knowledge, and values for the growth and development of civic leadership, as well as opportunities for students to network with each other across the state and region.

The goals of the program are:

· To create a cross-campus network of student leaders working on community issues. Students will be able to use the Network to find other students working on the same issue to share strategies and resources.

· To create a venue for students and campus staff to share civic leadership trainings on different campuses, addressing different community issues and leadership skill sets.

· To create a system to certify students as civic leaders. Students will have the opportunity to attend trainings on various civic leadership competencies, and once they have demonstrated their knowledge on the subject, they will receive certification from Maine Campus Compact.

By participating in the program you will be helping to build the leadership skills of your students and their capacity to use those skills on your campus and in your community.

What Will this Look Like on Your Campus?

Our hope is that each campus will have a Network Liaison (faculty or staff member) and a Student Ambassador to support the on-line community of students, staff, and trainings.

The Network Liaison will participate in advisory group and planning meetings and will also be responsible for certifications on that campus. He/she will certify that trainings offered on their campus meet competency criteria and will also certify that a student has gone to a training and has demonstrated knowledge in said area (i.e. go to a fundraising program and then plan a fundraising event for your organization). Once the campus has certified the student has completed this task, Maine Campus Compact will award that student a certificate for completing the competency.

The Student Ambassador will help to coordinate opportunities for trainings. The Student Ambassador will also be actively involved with student programs on campus and will help the students participating in CLN make connections with organizations to demonstrate their knowledge in certain competencies. He/she will also help to advertise training opportunities.

The Competencies

We hope to offer students training opportunities in many different areas, including: Collaborative Skills, Communication Skills, Fundraising and Resource Development, General Leadership Skills, and Networking. The program is in the initial steps, and we are looking to host a planning meeting for the network sometime in October.
