College Access Corps Program Overview
The primary goal of the College Access Corps is to increase college enrollment rates among local high school students. In addition, the program aims to develop partnerships between high schools and institutions of higher education to further address issues of college access and support an increase in college enrollment rates.
Much of the work of corps members complements existing guidance efforts by providing direct college advising to student in high schools. Corps members also utilize the resources of the partner college and work toward a sustainable partnership dedicated to improving college aspirations and access for local youth. Corps members come into the positions with a thorough understanding of the variety of higher education institutions throughout the state. While the work plans of corps members will vary based on their host site community, the essential components of each program are designed to achieve the overall program goals:
1. Increase college enrollment rates of local high school students
This is achieved through one-on-one advising with a cohort of students, as well as serving as an information resource for families and the local community.
2. Develop partnerships between institutions of higher education and high schools to address college access
This partnership will utilize the resources of college admissions and financial aid offices, as well as mobilize local college students to volunteer their time to work with local high school students.
